With the direction of PM, NDMA has started on Multi Initial Rapid
Assessment (MIRA) for flood affected districts in association with UN.
The assessment would be carried out in most of affected districts including
Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Chiniot, Jhang and Multan as identified by the PDMA
Punjab. The main purpose of the valuation is to identify damages to the
community infrastructure, recovery needs & re-establishment requirements.
NDMA would coordinate and facilitate PDMA in carrying out this assessment. The
assessment report will be settled jointly by NDMA and UN-OCHA. NDMA is
regularly and constantly coordinating with all departments concerned to ensure
timely safety and rescue and provision of relief to the rain and flood affected
people. The heavy water flow after passing through head Marala, Khanki,
Qadirabad and Trimmu on River Chenab is now steadily heading towards Punjnad
headworks. The provincial, district and local civil administration are taking
all necessary precautionary measures to ensure effective scheme to handle with result
which may arise with the entrance of flood discharge. NDMA teams are also in
the field and coordinating with local administration in rescue and relief
efforts to stop damage to life and property. People have been evacuated through
active participation of Pakistan Army, Rescue 1122 and many NGOs’ workers; however,
evacuation of aground people is still underway. So far, 276681 persons have
been displaced. Aerial monitoring of flood is also being carried out regularly
through army helicopters to review protective arrangements. Flood control
centers have been established to monitor expected flood situation. So far, NDMA
has provided 20,000 tents, 10,000 plastic mats, 20,000 blankets, 471,000 aqua
tablets, 30 mobile filtration plants, 31 boats and 100 life jackets to Punjab,
3,000 tents 1000 blankets and 1500 plastic mats to AJK as well as 200 tents,
1000 blankets and 3 boasts to ICT and 275 tents to Gilgitt Baltistan.
